George Patton
George Patton was an American General in World War Two. Patton became famous by conquering Sicily, which followed on from the sucess of the North African campaign. He had know Dwight Eisenhower for many years before the war and during the war he had support from him throghout.
Patton commanded American forces in Morocco, Tunisia, and Sicily between 1942 and 1943, and the early parts of 1944. He had command of the American Third Army. After sucessful landings at D-Day, he played an important role in the use of armour. He seemed to be ahead of any other Allied armoured group.
After the war in Europe ended in May 1945, Patton was made military governor of Bavaria, but when he was accused of being too soft on Germans he was removed from this post.
