Francisco Franco
Francisco Franco was a spanish general and dictator. He was born in the year of 1892 and grew up in a military family. After the Spanish Civil war was when the World War II started, so they stayed out of the war for the time being and joined the Anti-Comintern Pact in 1938. Spain wanted to take over Gibraltar, French Morocco, some of Algeria and Africa so he tried to get Germany to help them but Hilter wouldnt unless he joined the war. It made Hitler mad that he wanted so much. Franco did agree to send volunteer troops, they were called the Spanish Blue Divison, to fight communism in Europe. But this still wasnt what Hilter wanted. In 1943 Franco took the volunteers out of the war, convinced that the Axis Powers would be defeated, and he started to support the allies in the war. Franco being strongly anti-communism made U.S. interested in them, so in 1953 they made an agreement for U.S. to have naval and air bases in Spain. Francisco Franco died in 1975 and was replaced by the grandson of the last king Juan Carlos.
