The Holocaust killed about six million Jews during the Nazi time. In 1933 nine million Jews lived in the 21 countries of Europe that would be occupied by Nazi Germany during World War 2. By 1945 two out of every three European Jews had been killed. The Death Camps were built by Nazi Germany. It was made to kill millions of Jews, by gassing them and also by making them do extreme labor. The Nazi attempts at Jewish genocide are collectively known as the Holocaust.

The terms extermination camp (Vernichtungslager) and death camp (Todeslager) are interchangeable usages, each referring to camps whose primary function was genocide, not for punishing crime or containing political prisoners, but for the systematic killing of the prisoners delivered there.

The system that Nazi Germany created grew to include about 100 camps divided into two types: concentration camps for slave labor in nearby factories and death camps for the systematic extermination of "undesirables" including Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally retarded and others.
Concentration camps were camps that the Jewish, Gypsie, or other people were forced to go to, to be tortured or forced to do work. Adolf Hitler and the German Nazi Soldiers did not like those kind of people so they decided to put them in camps, called Concentration camps. They put them in these camps mostly because of their looks and their religion. The camps were built to fit many people in them. They also had many bunk beds to save room. Death camps were different from Concentration camps. Death camps were designed to kill people instead of making them do forced labor.

Torture was very brutial during this time.
  • The German doctors did cruel medical experiments that they hadn't tested on anyone else.
  • Tied them to a post and tore the flesh off their backs with a stick wrapped with barbed wire
  • The German soldiers lined up people in front of a hole and shot them and then they would fall back into the hole and it would be an easy clean-up process.
  • The German soldiers would starve people.
  • They would also hang people and put them into gas chambers and much more cruel things.
